From Platinum Beef: we are proud and humbled and want to thank all who attended our inaugural Wagyu auction. We believe that our goals have been achieved, specifically to introduce the Wagyu breed to a new segment in the market. The fact that 500 odd people attended the auction, shows of an interest in a commodity that is still in its infancy in South Africa. Awareness has been created how Wagyu can be the alternative to farming in a more profitable manner. Much emphasis has been placed on how to Start the correct way, with the correct genetics!
A few highlights of the evening were: Lot 5, a young bull that sold for ZAR350 000 ($26 000) a young son of the renowned Michifuku and a direct descendant of the Suzutani lineage.
The highest achieved lot was Lot 27, a 4-month-old Fullblood heifer that sold with a pregnant recipient. Aizakura, the first Blackmore heifer sold for ZAR400 000 ($30 000) purchased by well-known game farmers; Woempa Fouche and Hanno van Rensburg in the Limpopo province.
Cows achieved an average of ZAR183 750 ($13 611).
The maximum selling price for a heifer came to ZAR300 000 ($22 000) also pregnant to Michifuku.
